| THE FRANKLINS DOWN UNDER |
Sir John Franklin is well-known in Orkney's history from his ill-fated search for the North-West Passage. But before that he and his wife had adventures on the other side of the world, when he was Governor of Van Diemen's Land in Australia. The British colony proved hostile, but Lady Jane herself helped her husband bring about reforms and also made her own journey of exploration. Mike Gore and Sue Stocklmayer take up the story. |

| ORKNEY AND THE PICTS |
Where did the Picts come from? One of the earliest English scientists knew the answer. Bede, well-known for his history of the English people, also wrote of the origins of volcanoes, the shape of the earth, the phases of the moon - and the route of the Picts to the British Isles. Howie Firth follows the implications and brings together other insights from recent years to provide a radical new picture of the Picts and their times. |

| THE LIGHT SIDE OF PHYSICS |
Is it true that science is serious and that scientists have no sense of humour? Not at all, says Dr Moshe Rishpon of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. It can captivate, entertain, and sometimes surprise you – and he provides a series of suitably entertaining and surprising demonstrations for a family audience to enjoy: on light, sound, weightlessness, and much more.
